Affordable Home Transformation through Arona's "Bullette" Doors: "Monetary Saving Achieved"

In the heart of Italy, the local office in Arona, opened in February and closed on June 30, has been described as a success by Mayor Alberto Gusmeroli. The office, a brainchild of Gusmeroli, was designed to assist citizens aged 75 and over, disabled individuals, and those facing economic hardship, saving them significant amounts on their electricity bills.

For a period of four months, Antonella Celenza, a volunteer from Arona, dedicated three days a week to helping citizens with their paperwork, a commitment that yielded fruitful results. The significant savings for the "vulnerable" families during this period were confirmed by Arera in their recent annual report.

The savings were achieved by switching from the protected market to the gradual protection market. This transition, proposed by Gusmeroli, who was the first signatory of the League's amendment, has been a game-changer for these families. The current data shows that around 3 million families have transitioned to the gradual protection system, with Gusmeroli expecting substantial savings for the targeted group to continue until March 2027.

However, it's important to note that the "vulnerable" families are advised not to accept any contract changes until March 2027. Some families classified as "non-vulnerable" returned to the protected market by June 30, 2024, but no earlier fact mentions a specific deadline for the rest of the non-vulnerable families to do so.

The initiative, which also received the support of Giovanni Vesco, the communal director, who provided consultancy services to approximately 30 municipalities across Italy, has not been widely publicized by local and national opposition groups, a fact that disappoints Gusmeroli.

By the end of September, there will be a complete national dataset for families switching to the gradual protection system. Unfortunately, the names of the 30 municipalities advised by Vesco and supported by Celenza, benefiting from the office opened and closed in Arona, are not publicly available.

Despite the office's closure, Gusmeroli remains optimistic about the future, advocating for unity among political groups to help citizens save money. The absence of the Arona office might have caused difficulties for many citizens, but the savings achieved during its operation will undoubtedly be felt for a long time. A total of 721 families in Arona benefited from the office's services, making a tangible difference in their lives.
