Aflac Boosts Cybersecurity with Qualys VMDR 2.0, Cuts Vulns by 55%
Aflac, the leading US supplemental insurance provider, has successfully completed a Proof of Concept (PoC) using Qualys VMDR 2.0 with TruRisk. The initiative has significantly enhanced Aflac's cybersecurity posture and efficiency.
Aflac initially selected Qualys VMDR in 2021 to bolster its vulnerability management and compliance. The PoC, initiated by Qualys, further explored the capabilities of the newly released VMDR 2.0 with TruRisk.
The PoC addressed four key challenges faced by Aflac. Firstly, it enabled the company to quantify cyber risk for two distinct audiences, providing a clear global risk posture via a dashboard. Secondly, it improved vulnerability prioritization by identifying previously overlooked CVEs and focusing on critical issues. Thirdly, it bridged the gap between IT and security teams by offering transparency in remediation justification. Lastly, it helped Aflac find potential blind spots before attackers could exploit them.
The results were impressive. Aflac slashed reporting tasks from weeks to minutes, thanks to real-time data and a 24/7 infrastructure view. The company's critical and high-severity vulnerabilities decreased by 55%. Moreover, the high scalability of the system positioned Aflac for future expansion.
Aflac plans to build on these successes by using Qualys TruRisk to implement cybersecurity leaderboards and consolidate threat intelligence tools. This is expected to reduce licensing costs from redundant tools. The PoC has demonstrated the effectiveness of Qualys VMDR 2.0 with TruRisk in enhancing Aflac's cybersecurity capabilities and driving operational efficiency.
