Avolon Announces Major Airbus Order for 90 New Aircraft

Dublin-based aircraft leasing company Avolon has placed an order for 90 new planes from Airbus, extending its committed fleet out to 2033. The order, announced on July 24, 2025, consists of 75 A321neo and 15 A330neo planes, scheduled for delivery through 2033[1][2][3][4].

The details of the order include a firm order for 75 A321neos and 15 A330neos, with purchase rights for an additional 25 A321neos and options to buy another 15 A330neos[3][4]. All A330neos are equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, while no engine selection has been specified for the A321neos yet[3].

This order increases Avolon's total Airbus commitments to 413 aircraft, which consist exclusively of A320neo family (which includes A321neos) and A330neo models[1]. Avolon already operates 145 A320neo family aircraft and 33 A330neos delivered. With this order, the A330neo orderbook reaches 55 aircraft and the total A321neos ordered rise to 264 units[1][2][3].

The expanded fleet of new technology aircraft delivers significant environmental benefits. The A321neo delivers 20% lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions compared to older single-aisle planes, and has a capacity for 244 passengers with a range of 7,400km[1]. The A330neo offers 25% fuel and CO2 savings compared to previous-generation widebody aircraft, with a range of over 13,300km[1].

Andy Cronin, Avolon's CEO, expressed delight about expanding and extending the partnership with Airbus, stating that the order reflects the company's strong confidence in the long-term demand for new aircraft. He mentioned ratings upgrades due to Avolon's growing profitability, balance sheet strength, and high levels of liquidity[2][4].

During the second quarter, Avolon bought 15 aircraft, sold 20 aircraft, and agreed for sale 54 aircraft. The company proposed a dividend of $146m for the first half of the year. Avolon placed 26 aircraft from its orderbook, ending the quarter with 98% of its orderbook placed for the next two years. The company reported lease revenue of $678m for the second quarter, a 3% increase from the same time last year[2].

Airbus EVP Sales, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, considers lessors as excellent barometers of the aircraft market[5]. This latest order from Avolon reinforces its position as a major lessor with over 400 Airbus aircraft commitments spanning single-aisle and widebody types[1][2][3][4].

By securing this major Airbus order, Avolon, a significant player in the aircraft leasing industry, boosts its business operations and finance investments, with the acquisition of 90 new aircraft. This expansion in the automotive transportation sector marks a promising future for both Avolon and Airbus, with strong confidence in the long-term demand for new aircraft.
