Alexandria, Virginia is set to witness a significant milestone in its redevelopment journey. On Monday, Aug. 18, construction crews will commence the installation of a tower crane at The Heritage at Old Town project. The crane installation will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours possible if needed.

The Heritage at Old Town is a three-phase redevelopment project by EYA, set to include a total of 598 apartment units. Phase 1, currently underway at Block 4, will feature 310 apartment homes along with over 14,000 square feet of amenity space, rooftop terraces, a courtyard pool, and two levels of underground parking.

The installation process will involve multiple tractor-trailers and heavy equipment staged on Alfred Street, with two mobile cranes positioned on-site to help erect the tower crane. Residents and the public are welcome to observe the installation from a safe distance, as Wilkes Park will remain open during construction. However, parking will be prohibited on the affected block from midnight Aug. 18 through midnight Aug. 19 due to the construction work.

The project also includes affordable housing components, with 140 apartments designated for families eligible for the federal Housing Assistance Program and an additional 10 units for Housing Choice Voucher Program participants.

The Heritage at Old Town redevelopment project is progressing steadily, with the installation of the tower crane marking a significant step forward. The project, which broke ground on June 18 with Mayor Alyia Gaskins and Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners President and CEO Jair Lynch in attendance, is set to transform the city's landscape while also providing affordable housing options.
