Hey there! If you're a regular tram user in Munich, heads up! Construction work is underway starting June 2nd, and it might disrupt your usual commute. Here's what you need to know.
Munich – Get ready for some route changes! With construction in full swing, several tram lines will be rerouted, and buses will be stepping in as replacements. The renovations are set to continue until August, so grab your patience cap and read on for the details.
Bye-bye Trams, Hello Busses: Which Lines Are Affected?
- Line 16 shifts between Romanplatz and Sendlinger Tor, while Line 17 takes over between Sendlinger Tor and Isartor. Replacement buses will be in action between Isartor and Effnerplatz.
- Line 19 and night line N19 only operate between Berg am Laim and Lautensackstraße, and will be rerouted via Siglstraße, Hans-Thonauer-Straße to Westendstraße. For Westendstraße to Pasing, buses will be on duty via Lautensackstraße, Fürstenriederstraße, Willibaldplatz, and Westbad. Both lines will also be rerouted between Hauptbahnhof Süd and Max-Weber-Platz, via Karlsplatz, Sendlinger Tor, and Isartor. The Lenbachplatz to Maximilianeum section will not be serviced.
- Line 21 will be rerouted between Karlsplatz and Max-Weber-Platz, via Sendlinger Tor and Isartor. The Lenbachplatz to Maximilianeum section will not be serviced.
- Line 27 will now operate between Petuelring and Scheidplatz via Hohenzollernplatz and Kurfürstenplatz, replacing the inoperable Line 28. Between Karlsplatz and Kurfürstenplatz, replacement buses will be deployed.
- Night Line N27 will operate from Großhesseloher Brücke to Karlsplatz, and will be rerouted via Hauptbahnhof, Stiglmaierplatz, and Hochschule München. Replacement buses will serve the Karlsplatz to Petuelring section.

It's worth keeping an eye out for future construction on the S-Bahn lines, which might affect your commute. From June 7th to June 13th, 2025, there are significant disruptions expected on the S-Bahn network due to the commissioning of a new electronic signal box at Ostbahnhof.
- S3 (between Isartor and Pasing)
- S2 (between Isartor and Laim)
- S7 (remains unaffected)
For airport travel, the S1 is recommended. During these S-Bahn interruptions, rail replacement bus services will operate between Ostbahnhof and areas like Pasing, Riem, Trudering, and Johanneskirchen.
