Amerikalinie Expansion Moves Forward, Neighboring Municipalities Demand Noise Protection and Future-Oriented Development
The Amerikalinie expansion project is moving forward, with neighboring municipalities working together to ensure their demands are met. The final package will be submitted to the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport by the end of December for parliamentary consideration.
The Amerikalinie, which connects northern German ports to the rest of the country, is set to see a significant increase in freight traffic. Currently handling around 20 regional and two freight trains daily, the line is expected to accommodate 36 regional and 34 freight trains in the future, with nearly half running at night.
The expansion, planned for the fourth quarter of this year, involves electrification, digital signaling technology, and an increase in speed from 80 to 100 kilometers per hour. However, plans to expand the line between Langwedel and Uelzen have raised concerns in Soltau.
Soltau, along with neighboring municipalities Bispingen, Schneverdingen, and Wilsede, has formulated demands for a consensual expansion. Soltau's primary demand is for noise protection, including adherence to WHO guidelines and active measures like noise barriers and soundproof windows for living rooms facing the Amerikalinie. The city has also set conditions to ensure the expansion contributes to future-oriented, human-friendly urban development.
The Amerikalinie expansion aims to significantly increase freight traffic from northern German ports. With the final package set to be submitted by the end of December, neighboring municipalities are working together to ensure their demands for noise protection and future-oriented development are considered. The expansion, involving electrification and increased speed, is expected to improve the Amerikalinie's efficiency and connectivity.
