Anticipated Market Movements This Week: Insights and Predictions

This week's financial and economic reports, highlighting tech, retail, and financial earnings, as well as inflation and broader economic indicators, are set to provide a comprehensive snapshot of industry performance.

On Wednesday, Nvidia's earnings are highly anticipated, following the company's recent return to a $3 trillion market cap and a rally of around 50% since its April low. Nvidia's earnings come after it announced that it will supply semiconductors to Saudi Arabian AI startup Humain, and it reported a 78% year-over-year revenue growth in its prior earnings release.

Also on Wednesday, Salesforce is expected to deliver its quarterly report. The cloud software provider reported 8% revenue growth in its prior quarter, driven by the growth of its Agentforce custom AI platform. While its outlook was worse than expected, analysts say the company has strong growth potential.

Thursday's report from Dell Technologies will reveal if the computer maker is continuing to benefit from increased demand for AI infrastructure, following a 37% growth in server and networking sales in the previous quarter. Analysts at Morgan Stanley have raised their price target for the company, citing growing server sales momentum due to AI demand. Market watchers will also be following HP's scheduled report on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Costco Wholesale is on the corporate calendar, coming after the membership-based retailer reported a 7% increase in April sales, partly attributed to customers making purchases ahead of U.S. tariffs. Costco reported a 9% revenue growth in its previous quarter, driven by higher membership fees.

AutoZone's report is scheduled for Tuesday, following an upgrade from Bank of America Securities, as analysts believe that higher auto costs from U.S. tariffs could result in more vehicle repairs by cost-conscious drivers. Dick's Sporting Goods' expected report on Wednesday follows its recent deal to acquire sporting goods retailer Foot Locker.

Investors will be watching the scheduled Thursday report from Chinese EV Li Auto, which competes with Tesla in the Chinese market. Meanwhile, PDD Holdings, the parent of Chinese-based online retailer Temu, is facing pressure from U.S. tariffs.

Friday's scheduled release of the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index will demonstrate how the Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation fared in April. This reading comes as the Fed has closely watched prices in the wake of President Donald Trump's tariffs.

Wednesday's expected release of the minutes of the May meeting of the FOMC will offer more insight into Fed officials' deliberations over interest rates and the economy. Several Fed officials are also set to speak during the week, including Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller, New York Fed President John Williams, and San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly.

Revisions to first-quarter GDP are due on Thursday after the initial report showed that the economy shrank in the first three months of 2025. Investor focus will also be on reports on consumer confidence and sentiment scheduled for this week, as surveys show that consumers' moods have soured over concerns that tariffs will drive prices higher. Friday's expected reports on the U.S. trade deficit, retail inventories, and wholesale inventories will provide additional detail on the impact of U.S. tariffs on the economy.

In addition to Nvidia, other tech firms scheduled to report earnings this week include Marvell Technology, Dell Technologies, and HP. Meanwhile, notable retailers like Costco Wholesale, AutoZone, and Dick's Sporting Goods, as well as financial institutions like Bank of Montreal, are also set to release their quarterly results.

  1. Despite the forthcoming revisions to first-quarter GDP, tech firms like Nvidia, Marvell Technology, and Dell Technologies are scheduled to report their earnings this week, anticipating insights into their financial performance.
  2. In the realm of finance and investing, ICOs might offer attractive opportunities for business growth, particularly for tech companies conducting AI research like Nvidia, which is supplying semiconductors to Humain.
  3. Trading in the de-fi space could provide alternative investment options for those interested in diversifying their portfolios, considering the growth potential that tech companies like Salesforce demonstrate in their custom AI platforms.
