Apple Accelerates AR Glasses Launch to 2028
Apple has accelerated its plans for AR glasses, bringing forward the launch of a display-equipped pair from 2028. This move is part of a broader realignment of the tech giant's AR/VR strategy.
The new Apple glasses will come with an array of features, including a special chip, speakers, and a camera. They will heavily rely on voice control and AI, with a new version of Siri planned. Apple is also working on a more comfortable headband for the Vision Pro 2, which is expected to feature an M4 or M5 chip.
Apple has paused the N100 project for a Vision Air, originally planned for 2027. It has also scrapped plans for the N107 project, a smart glasses connected to the Mac. Instead, the N50 model, without a display, is set to be unveiled in 2026 and released in 2027.
The Vision Pro is seen as an interim step towards true AR glasses. Apple is speeding up development of smart glasses, with at least two variants planned.
Apple's new AR glasses, with a market introduction brought forward, are expected to come with advanced features and improved comfort. The tech giant is continuing development of the Vision Pro 2 and has at least two other variants in the pipeline, indicating a significant push into the AR glasses market.
