Artificial Intelligence Integration in myVW App, Powered by Google Cloud, Features Virtual Assistant for 2025 Atlas and Models Released from 2020 Onward
Volkswagen Partners with Google Cloud to Introduce myVW Virtual Assistant
Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWGoA) has teamed up with Google Cloud to enhance the myVW mobile app with generative artificial intelligence (AI). The new partnership aims to provide Volkswagen owners with a more personalized and convenient vehicle support experience.
The myVW Virtual Assistant, available on both the Apple Store and Google Play Store, utilizes the multi-modal capabilities of Google Cloud's Gemini models. This means users can ask questions such as, "How do I change a flat tire?" or "What does this digital cockpit indicator light mean?" and receive low-latency, accurate information.
The Virtual Assistant also allows users to use Gemini's multi-modal capabilities to see helpful information and context on indicator lights by pointing their smartphone cameras at their dashboards.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, stated that the myVW Virtual Assistant built on Google's AI platform will set a new standard for driver experiences. He emphasized that the assistant will bring highly personalized vehicle support directly to Volkswagen customers.
Abdallah Shanti, Chief Information Officer for Volkswagen Group of America, stated that the partnership aims to enhance the ownership experience for Volkswagen customers and create love for their vehicles. Rachael Zaluzec, Senior Vice President, Customer Experience & Brand Marketing for Volkswagen Group of America, reiterated this sentiment, stating that the myVW app and Virtual Assistant advance Volkswagen's promise of unparalleled customer service and exceptional value for vehicle owners.
Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport owners can currently use the Virtual Assistant to explore their owners' manuals and ask questions about their vehicles. Starting in 2025, the Virtual Assistant will be available for most MY20 and newer Volkswagen vehicle owners.
Google Cloud Consulting provided comprehensive support throughout the app development process, ensuring the app meets Volkswagen's legal requirements, high standards, and delivers an innovative user-centric experience.
Volkswagen is using Google Cloud's Vertex AI and BigQuery to ground and tune Gemini models on various data sources, including vehicle owner's manuals, FAQs, help center articles, official YouTube videos, and step-by-step guides. This ensures that the Virtual Assistant provides a comprehensive and accurate source of information for Volkswagen owners.
The myVW Virtual Assistant provides vehicle owners with intuitive access to critical vehicle information and services, making it easier than ever for Volkswagen owners to get the support they need. The Virtual Assistant is a testament to Volkswagen's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.
