Barcelona's Football Club Manages to Acquire $104 Million for Player Registrations, According to MARCA
FC Barcelona's president, Joan Laporta, has successfully procured a massive $104 million (€100 million) infusion that will enable the club to officially sign Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, as reported by MARCA using unnamed sources.
The duo of Spanish forwards were the only first-team additions for manager Hansi Flick's squad in preparation for the 2024/2025 season. Pau Victor, who joined from Girona for $2.6 million (€2.5 million), had impressed while on loan with Barca Atletic. Olmo, on the other hand, returned to the club after a stint with RB Leipzig, where he left as a 16-year-old from La Masia. This transfer deal with Leipzig, which could potentially total $63 million (€60 million), brought Olmo back home.
Olmo had to wait until Matchday 3 to make his debut. He came on as a substitute to orchestrate a comeback win over Ray Vallecano. His registration was initially hindered due to a Financial Fair Play (FFP) issue, but an injury-induced loophole with defenders Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen enabled the duo to join the squad temporarily.
However, the deadline for this temporary registration was fast approaching, and Barca's announcement of a new Nike deal ratified by the club's members failed to resolve the issue. Matters seemed to worsen when a Barcelona judge rejected the request for Olmo and Victor's permanent registration for the rest of the season on Friday.
Barca had intended to appeal to the Court of First Instance, but such a plan won't be necessary now, according to MARCA. This is because Laporta has ingeniously sold VIP box access to the Spotfy Camp Nou, currently under renovation, in a deal worth $104 million (€100 million). This money will not only ensure the signing of Olmo and Pau Victor but also enable the club to adhere to the 1:1 rule under FFP once again.
Barca is currently negotiating the payment for the VIP boxes deal and will presumably announce further details once the process is concluded.
In the upcoming 2024/2025 season, RB Leipzig's former player Dani Olmo and Girona's transfer Pau Victor will join Paris Saint-Germain's manager Hansi Flick's squad at FC Barcelona, following Olmo's return from Leipzig in a deal reportedly worth up to $63 million (€60 million).
Despite initial hindrances due to a Financial Fair Play (FFP) issue, Dani Olmo was able to debut for FC Barcelona in a comeback win over Ray Vallecano, thanks to an injury-induced loophole with defenders Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen.
