Barclays Strengthens Financial Sponsors Division with New Appointments

Barclays has made several key appointments in its Financial Sponsors division, as the bank looks to grow its advisory and ECM activities with sponsor clients.

Neel Laungani has been named as the APAC head of financial sponsors at Barclays, bringing over three decades of industry experience to the role. Laungani's direct supervisors within Barclays are Avinash Thakur, Head of Investment Banking for Asia Pacific, and Christian Oberle, Global Head of Financial Sponsors.

Laungani previously worked at Credit Suisse as APAC head of financial sponsors and vice chairman of APAC technology, media, and telecom (TMT) investment banking. He also held senior roles at Standard Chartered Bank and Lehman Brothers. In his new role at Barclays, Laungani is responsible for financial sponsor transactions origination and execution in the Asia-Pacific region.

Avinash Thakur, who joined Barclays earlier this year, commented that the bank's global reach and sector depth is a key differentiator to its clients. Barclays' financial sponsors division has global reach and sector depth across the world's largest financial centers. The division works with private equity firms and investment funds, and is a top five global financial sponsors franchise.

In addition to Laungani, Barclays has also appointed Scott Willard and Isobel van Daesdonk as managing directors in the Americas region of its financial sponsors division. Jason Short has also been appointed as a managing director within the division.

The reorganization of Barclays' APAC Investment Banking division comes as the bank reported investment banking revenues of £1.2 billion for H1 2025, up 1% year-on-year. With the addition of these new appointments, Barclays is well-positioned to continue to grow its financial sponsors division and meet the needs of its clients.

In conclusion, Barclays has made several key appointments in its Financial Sponsors division, with Neel Laungani being named as the APAC head of financial sponsors. The bank's global reach and sector depth, combined with the expertise of its new hires, will help it to continue to grow its advisory and ECM activities with sponsor clients.
