Barrick Mining Corporation Advances Tailings Facilities Towards Safe Closure

In a move to improve transparency and align with industry standards, Barrick Mining Corporation has published site-level disclosures for 65 of its tailings storage facilities (TSFs) across its global operations. These disclosures, published on the company's website at www.barrick.com/tailings-disclosures, include site-level data and risk classifications.

As of current, Barrick has 13 facilities in Safe Closure, with five more targeted for next year. The Safe Closure program, a systematic process requiring long-term risk assessment and mitigation for human health and the environment, stakeholder engagement, biodiversity conservation, and protection of cultural values, is a key focus for the company.

Barrick's Safe Closure program emphasizes technical measures such as geotechnical stability assessments, water management (treatment and drainage), dust control, engineered covers/vegetation, and ongoing monitoring as part of closure plans. The company prioritizes bringing inactive TSFs into Safe Closure on a priority basis.

Five TSFs are rated as extreme risk and 12 as very high risk, but Barrick describes actions underway to manage those risks. The company's statements are from its August 2025 disclosures and press release; risk classifications and Safe Closure counts are self-reported by Barrick in those disclosures.

Barrick Mining Corporation, a leading global mining, exploration, and development company, is a member of the International Council on Mining and Metals and has been a strong advocate for the industry-wide adoption of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM). The GISTM aligns closely with Barrick's own comprehensive tailings management standards.

Barrick, the largest gold producer in the United States, trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol 'B' and on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol 'ABX'. The company's portfolio includes six of the world's Tier One gold mines, and its operations and projects span 18 countries and five continents.
