Belarusian Electric Vehicle Discontinued, Now Replaced by Geely Model
In an exciting development, the automotive industry in Belarus is set for a transformation as the new electric passenger car, the Geely E22H, is expected to make its debut in October 2025. This announcement marks a significant shift away from the Belgee EX50, a domestic electric car that never made it to mass production.
The Geely E22H, also known as the Geome Xingyuan, will be marketed under the Geely brand, not BelGee, positioning it as an affordable electric vehicle tailored for the domestic market. The car is expected to boast a range of 430 km, making it a promising contender in the electric vehicle market.
The decision to market the Geely E22H comes after the factory "BELAZ" abandoned serial production of the Belgee EX50. Five test samples of the Belgee EX50 were tested on polygons, but the launch into mass production was deemed too expensive, as stated by the plant's director, Gennady Svyidersky.
Svyidersky also revealed that an additional model to the factory's range will be a hybrid crossover with the index X80, based on Geely Galaxy Starship 7. This hybrid crossover is expected to cater to the preferences of Russians, who, according to Svyidersky, prefer hybrid vehicles over affordable electric ones.
Interestingly, developers had previously stated their readiness to produce a Belarusian electric car but opted against selling it due to market competitiveness issues. It seems that the market landscape has now shifted, paving the way for the introduction of the Geely E22H.
Currently, 70% of the plant's products are sold on the Russian market, with 30% on the Belarusian market. However, with the introduction of the Geely E22H, the balance might tilt towards a greater emphasis on the domestic market.
Despite the shift, the factory is not abandoning its electric train plans, with the Geely brand still expected to feature in the lineup.
This transition in the Belarusian automotive industry promises an exciting future, with the Geely E22H set to make its mark in October 2025. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
