Bergisch Gladbach Launches First Bike Lanes on Hasenweg and Nachtigallenstraße
Bergisch Gladbach has launched its first bike lanes on Hasenweg and Nachtigallenstraße, with Deputy Mayor Ragnar Migenda welcoming the move. These lanes are part of the F2 bike route, set to become a key link in the city's expanding cycling network.
The new bike lanes, opened recently, come with a speed limit of 30 km/h for all users, including motorized traffic. Motorists must exercise extra caution around cyclists. The lanes allow bicycles to ride side by side, catering to the high and growing cycling activity in the area.
The Hasenweg and Nachtigallenstraße are now designated as bicycle streets. Here, motorists must yield to cyclists, with no 'priority to the right' rule. Brief stops are allowed, but parking is not. All road users have priority at intersections.
The city plans to gradually expand its bike network, making cycling more attractive and safer. Migenda emphasized the importance of bike lanes in modern mobility infrastructure and reducing climate change. These new lanes serve as a significant step in achieving that goal.
