Berlin Joins Race to Host Olympics, Plans €6M Bid by 2027
Berlin is in the running to host the Olympic Games, competing against Hamburg, Munich, and the Rhine-Ruhr region. The city is preparing a bid, with plans to spend up to six million euros between 2025 and 2027. The exact host year, either 2036, 2040, or 2044, is yet to be decided.
Berlin's Mayor Kai Wegner and Senator Iris Spranger will chair a committee to engage and convince the local population. Wegner is a strong advocate for hosting the Olympics in Germany, with Berlin playing a significant role. The city aims to create up to sixteen new positions, twelve in the project group and four in the Senate Administration for the Interior and Sports, to develop the bidding concept. Kaweh Niroomand, Berlin's Olympic commissioner, heads the project group working on the bid. Despite the plans, no specific information is currently available about the individuals proposed for the project committee.
Berlin's Olympic bid is underway, with a significant budget allocated and key personnel appointed. The city's enthusiasm is evident, but the final host year and committee members remain uncertain.
