Blue Yonder Hit by Termite Ransomware, Disrupting Major Supply Chains
Blue Yonder, a major logistics company, is grappling with a ransomware attack. The Termite group claims responsibility, alleging theft of 680GB of data. Blue Yonder has not commented but is seeking expert help.
The Termite ransomware group has emerged as a threat, focusing on Europe and North America. It's suspected to be a rebrand of the Babuk group, with activity dating back to April 2024. The group targets various sectors, with Blue Yonder being the latest victim.
Upon infection, Termite ransomware halts system shutdown and encrypts files, appending the '.termite' extension. It's reported to have stolen over 16,000 email lists and 200,000 insurance documents from Blue Yonder alone. The attack has disrupted supply chains, affecting major companies like Starbucks, Sainsbury's, and Morrisons.
Cybersecurity experts advise regular backups, software updates, and reputable antivirus use to mitigate ransomware threats. They also warn against untrusted links and attachments. Mikhail Pavolvich Matveev, allegedly the Babuk leader, was arrested in December 2023, but the Termite group continues to operate.
The Termite ransomware group's attack on Blue Yonder has caused significant disruption. With stolen data and affected supply chains, companies are urged to bolster their cybersecurity measures. Blue Yonder is working with experts to address the issue, but the group's continued activity underscores the persistent threat of ransomware.
