Board Seat Reservations Proposed for Companies Participating, Targeting the Young Generation

Italy is taking significant steps to address the demographic and pension alarm by encouraging greater participation of women in the workforce. This was a key topic of discussion at the Trento Economics Festival during a conference titled "Social Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion".

The Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) is a key factor in this push. The PNRR includes measures aimed at promoting female employment and entrepreneurship, improving work-life balance, encouraging inclusion, and increasing women's representation in research and innovation.

The PNRR seeks to expand childcare and family support to help women balance work and family responsibilities. It also supports female entrepreneurship and innovation-focused roles, promoting gender equality in research and public sectors with increased funding and initiatives. The goal is to address institutional and cultural barriers that hinder women's full participation in the labor market.

Eleonora Angelini, president of the provincial council of young people in Trento and CEO of the engineering company Nova Agenzia, announced that a bill related to these issues will be brought to the floor on June 7. The bill, which is yet to be detailed, aims to concretely implement the concepts of Diversity and Inclusion.

Nova Agenzia, based in Trento, could play a significant role in this initiative. The company is considering a bill to reserve seats in its boards for individuals under 35, aligning with the PNRR's requirement for companies that win public tenders related to the PNRR to allocate at least 30% of the additional employment created to young people under 36 and women of any age.

The PNRR's measures could potentially increase the employment ratio for women significantly. According to current economic parameters, the percentage of employment allocation for young people and women could reach up to 58%.

The demographic alarm and the need for greater participation of women in the workforce were also emphasized by economist Gabriella Berloffa during the conference. By 2070, there will be 11 million fewer Italians, especially in working age, she reminded the audience.

The Trento Economics Festival, a platform for discussions on economic and social sustainability, provided a space for these important conversations. Alongside Eleonora Angelini, Gabriella Berloffa, professor of Economics at the University of Trento, and Anna Roscio, executive director of sales and marketing at Intesa Sanpaolo, also spoke at the conference.

As the PNRR moves forward, it will be interesting to see how these measures translate into concrete actions and impact the Italian workforce, particularly for women. For more precise program details, reviewing official PNRR documentation or government releases specifically addressing gender policies would be necessary.

The Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) has included measures that aim to promote female employment and entrepreneurship, thereby encouraging diversity and inclusion in the business sector. The upcoming bill, to be presented by Eleonora Angelini, has the goal of concretely implementing the concepts of diversity and inclusion in the PNRR measures.
