Bremen abandons participation in European Mobility Week
In previous years, the European Mobility Week (EMW) in Bremen was organised, but the records do not explicitly state who was responsible for the organisation. Notably, Bremen did not participate officially in recent years, and there is no direct mention of the organising entity for the city in the results.
Contrary to popular belief, the city of Bremen did not centrally carry out the organisation of the Bremen EMW. Instead, the event was a project that promoted alternative formats for events, and it was funded through annual applications for project funding. These applications were made through the environmental department.
The Bremen EMW was a collaborative effort, with the organisation being handled by the "Car-Free City Dream Bremen e.V." association and the "Network City Re-think!" initiative. The event was known for its high volunteer engagement, attracting many individuals who were passionate about promoting alternative formats.
However, it is evident that Bremen has withdrawn from its structural responsibility in regards to alternative formats. Despite benefiting from the external image of promoting alternative formats for years, the city has now offered no perspective for such initiatives. This withdrawal is particularly notable given the city's absence in recent European Mobility Weeks.
This shift in the city's approach to alternative formats raises questions about Bremen's commitment to sustainable practices moving forward. While the city may no longer be actively involved in the organisation of the European Mobility Week, the legacy of the Bremen EMW and the passion of its volunteers continue to inspire efforts towards a more sustainable future.
