Bremen's Solar Power Surges Past 100MW Milestone
Bremen has reached a significant milestone in its renewable energy journey, achieving a total photovoltaic capacity of 100 megawatts. This remarkable feat is the result of over 5,500 systems installed in the city and another 1,400 in Bremerhaven. Katrin Moosdorf, the Senator for the Environment, Climate, and Science, has hailed this progress as a testament to Bremen's commitment to sustainable and climate-friendly energy.
Bremen's photovoltaic capacity has grown significantly, with the city operating systems totalling over 100,000 kilowatt-peak (kWp) for the first time. The 28197 postal code area leads the way with the highest installed capacity, boasting 18,450 kWp, largely due to its industrial nature and expansive roof surfaces. In terms of the number of systems, the 28357 postal code area takes the crown with 558 installations, followed by 27578 with 425, and 28279 with 417.
The year 2023 was particularly notable for Bremen, setting a record for solar energy installations. More systems were put into operation in January and February 2024 than in the same period the previous year. While Bremen's achievement is impressive, it is worth noting that other German cities are also making significant strides. For instance, Würzburg set a record for installed photovoltaic power in 2023, reaching a total capacity of 57,859 kWp by the end of 2024. However, larger-scale projects like the solar park in Gundelsheim have surpassed even these capacities, indicating substantial regional leadership in photovoltaic deployment.
Bremen's photovoltaic capacity has reached 100 megawatts, demonstrating the city's dedication to renewable energy. With record-breaking installations in 2023 and a strong start to 2024, Bremen is well on its way to a sustainable energy future. The city's efforts are part of a broader trend across Germany, with other cities like Würzburg also making significant strides in photovoltaic power.
