Bridge over Salt Water Valley in Wiesbaden has been cleared, but only temporarily.

The much-anticipated opening of the new north bridge on the Salzbachtal bridge, located on the A66, is scheduled for Friday, August 1, 2025. This milestone marks the completion of a significant part of the bridge's construction, which has been ongoing for several years.

Starting on Thursday, July 31, at 8 pm, the on-ramp to the A66 at the "Wiesbaden - Mainzer Straße" interchange in the direction of Rüdesheim will be closed until the bridge opens on Friday. During this period, lane closures and temporary speed limits will affect traffic on both the north and south bridges.

Once the works are completed, the speed limits on the Salzbachtal bridge will be lifted. However, the exact timing for the restoration of full lane widths and speed limits might depend on additional safety inspections and final adjustments following the opening. After the opening, two lanes on the new north bridge will be available for traffic heading towards Rüdesheim. Meanwhile, two lanes on the south bridge, which was completed in 2023, will remain available for traffic heading towards Frankfurt.

During the temporary restrictions, lanes in both directions on the Salzbachtal bridge will be narrowed for several weeks. The speed limit in the direction of Rüdesheim will be 80 km/h, and in the direction of Frankfurt, it will be 60 km/h. The median crossovers and remaining median work on the Salzbachtal bridge will be reconstructed during these temporary restrictions.

It's essential to note that the north bridge of the Salzbachtal bridge was originally scheduled to reopen at the end of June but has been delayed. For precise details regarding the lane closures and speed limits after the bridge opens, it's best to follow announcements from local traffic authorities or the Hessen road administration after August 1, 2025.

After the opening, the full lane widths will be available on the Salzbachtal bridge, ensuring a smoother and safer traffic flow. The Salzbachtal bridge project is a significant step towards improving infrastructure on the A66, benefiting commuters and travellers alike.

In the coming days, other industries such as transportation and general-news might report updates on the rest of the Salzbachtal bridge's construction, including the reopening of the north bridge that was originally scheduled for June but has been delayed. After completion, the finance industry may also benefit from the improved traffic flow on the A66, enhancing the overall economic development in the region.
