Broadview Chief Demands ICE Hand Over Names in False 911 Calls Probe

Broadview Police Chief Thomas Mills has escalated tensions with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by demanding the agency hand over the names of federal officers involved in recent incidents. Mills is prepared to take legal action and has opened criminal investigations into ICE agents' conduct.

The dispute began after Broadview village officials expressed their opposition to ICE operating a detention center in their town. Chief Mills alleges that ICE agents have been making false 911 calls, straining police resources. Body camera footage has emerged showing Broadview officers responding to a bogus call about gate tampering at the facility.

Dave Savini, an award-winning investigative journalist for CBS2 Chicago, is currently covering the incident. He reports that Broadview police have received multiple questionable 911 calls from the ICE facility recently. In one instance, an ICE agent fired a pepper ball at a News Chicago reporter's vehicle, causing her to suffer chemical burns and vomit. The agent claimed someone was trying to force their way into a door, but it was merely a journalist filming the exterior of the building.

Chief Mills is now reviewing all 911 calls made from the ICE facility and may pursue charges for filing false official reports. Broadview police have opened three criminal investigations into various incidents involving ICE agents. Despite requests for comment, ICE officials and the Department of Homeland Security have not responded to questions about the 911 calls.

The standoff between Broadview police and ICE continues as Chief Mills demands accountability for the alleged false 911 calls and other incidents. The police department is pursuing criminal investigations, and Mills is prepared to take legal action if necessary. Meanwhile, ICE has not publicly addressed the allegations.
