Burda Media Names Jan Wachtel as New CEO
Burda Media has appointed Jan Wachtel as its new CEO, effective 1 January. Wachtel brings a wealth of experience from leading roles at media houses like Bild, RTL, and Bauer Media. He succeeds Philipp Welte, who will join the supervisory board.
Burda Media, a global media company with a portfolio spanning publishing, printing, broadcasting, and digital platforms, has chosen Wachtel to lead its publishing businesses. With around 5,500 employees across 16 countries and generating approximately €1.37 billion in sales, Burda Media is relying on its experienced management and strong brands to navigate change.
Wachtel's impressive track record includes serving as Managing Director Bild digital and COO of the Bild group at Axel Springer, as well as leading roles at RTL Deutschland and Bauer Media. Elisabeth Burda Furtwängler, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board, praised Wachtel as the ideal candidate to drive Burda Media's future development.
Hubert Burda, CEO of Burda Media, commended Philipp Welte's contributions to the company and the industry. Welte will leave his operational role but join the supervisory board at the beginning of 2026.
