burger chain, Whataburger, to debut in Rock Hill; find out when they'll start serving food.
Texas-based fast-food chain Whataburger is set to expand its presence in the Southeast, with plans for a new location in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The upcoming restaurant will be situated at the former O'Charley's site along Dave Lyle Boulevard, near Chick-Fil-A and Ginza Buffet.
According to Preston Hughes, growth market leader for Whataburger in South Carolina, this will be the burger chain's first York County location. Whataburger officials have disclosed that they have plans for approximately 30 locations across the Carolinas. The debut Carolina restaurant opened in Boiling Springs, South Carolina last July, marking the beginning of an ambitious expansion plan.
The first North Carolina Whataburger will open its doors in Gastonia on May 29, with long lines expected. The private pre-opening event for training crew members' friends and family resulted in lines stretching down Franklin Boulevard, and one team member anticipates customers lining up more than a day in advance. The earliest 100 customers at the Gastonia location after the 9 a.m. opening will receive Whataburger swag bags.
Whataburger's Gastonia restaurant will operate 24 hours a day, offering breakfast from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m., and burgers available throughout the day. By the end of 2025, Whataburger aims to open a total of 10 restaurants in North Carolina, including one in the suburban Charlotte community of Indian Land, South Carolina. Further expansion is expected soon.
