Car owners can look forward to charging their electric vehicles at Bojangles locations in the near future.
Bojangles, a popular Charlotte-based chicken chain, is set to join the growing trend of fast-food and convenience food operators integrating electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at their establishments. The chain has partnered with Smart Big Box, Alyath EV, and Energy and Environmental Design Services to add charging stations to most of its 800-unit restaurants.
This move makes Bojangles one of the first fast-food chains to make EV charging widely available for its customers. The partnership allows the chain to introduce a new convenience that aligns with evolving customer needs.
Richard Del Valle, chief information officer for Bojangles, stated that the partnership enables them to offer this new convenience. Each Bojangles restaurant will have a minimum of four charging spots, ensuring that customers will have the opportunity to charge their cars while they eat or shop.
The charging stations will vary between medium and high-speed charging efficiency, providing customers with a range of options to suit their needs. With more than 97% uptime, customers can rely on the dependability of these charging stations.
Besides Bojangles, several other fast-food and quick-service chains are implementing EV charging stations at their restaurants. Waffle House, Denny’s, and Cracker Barrel have announced plans for new EV charging stations at their locations, joining the trend among major US fast-food chains to offer EV charging convenience for their customers.
Royal Farms, a fast and friendly convenience store chain, is collaborating with Electrify America to install Hyper-Fast EV chargers at eight locations in Maryland. Circle K, an iconic convenience store and fuel brand, is also actively pursuing EV charging infrastructure as part of a broader retail and fueling strategy.
The EV charging stations could further blur the lines between fast-food chains and convenience stores that frequently feature gas. Customers could potentially charge their cars while having a meal at Bojangles, starting in 2026, when the rollout of the charging stations at Bojangles is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
Alyath EV is creating a network of 5,500 EV charging stations, and the partnership with Bojangles is a significant step in that direction. Subway and Taco Bell are among the restaurant companies that have experimented with charging stations at some of their restaurants, indicating a growing trend in the industry.
