Central Asian cities have been outranked by Almaty in terms of living expenses
Coimbatore, India, with a cost of living index of 17.1, has been ranked as the city with the lowest cost of living among the top 400 cities, according to a recent study conducted by Numbeo. Surat, India, follows closely behind with an index of 18.7, while Lahore, Pakistan, comes in third with a cost of living index of 18.5.
These cities, along with six other Indian cities, three Pakistani cities, and one Libyan city, make up the top ten most affordable cities in the world. This means that these cities have a lower cost of living than New York, which serves as the reference point in the study with an index of 100.
The cost of living in these cities is determined by data on prices of food, transport, utilities, and other everyday expenses. Among the top ten cheapest cities to live in, according to Numbeo, Central Asian cities like Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) and Almaty (Kazakhstan) are included.
Indore, India, has a cost of living index of 17.7, making it one of the most affordable cities in the world. Lucknow, India, also features on the list with an index of 17.9.
Interestingly, cities like Reykjavik (96.2), Honolulu (94.4), and San Francisco (90.7) are included in the top 400 cities ranking for affordability. These cities are cheaper than New York by 3.8-9.3 percent.
This study provides valuable insights for individuals and businesses looking to relocate to cities with a lower cost of living. It's worth noting that while these cities offer affordability, it's important to consider other factors such as job opportunities, safety, and cultural fit before making a decision.
