CEO of Shippers Authority Recognized at Inaugural Responsible Business and Leadership Distinction Event

The Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) and its CEO, Benonita Bismarck, were recognized at the inaugural Responsible Business and Leadership Excellence Awards (RBLEA) in Accra last month.

The GSA received the 'Responsible Government Regulator of the Year 2021' award, while Bismarck was honored for her 'Outstanding Contribution to the Shipping Industry Development.' The ceremony took place on March 29, 2022, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel.

The GSA was lauded for its efforts in facilitating trade, such as educational seminars on Uncleared Cargo List (UCL) and its impact on the national treasury, nationwide campaigns on the promotion of local marine insurance, and the removal of non-tariff barriers through regular stakeholder engagement.

Other notable initiatives included nationwide exporters' fora to build exporter capacity, seminars for transit truck drivers, and regular engagements with shipping service providers to improve cargo handling at the ports.

The RBLEA aims to promote good business management practices, discouraging activities that impede social development. Categories for the awards included 'Responsible CEO of the Year,' 'Responsible Trade & Investment Leader of the Year,' 'Responsible CSR and Community Development Impact Award,' 'Responsible Brand of the Year,' 'Responsible Business and Leadership Company of the Year,' and 'Industry Personality of the Year.'

The RBLEA is an initiative focused on recognizing and uplifting the achievements of responsible business leaders in Ghana. Despite limited information available on the specific details or history of the awards, its primary objective is to celebrate and define excellence in business leadership.

  1. The recognition at the Responsible Business and Leadership Excellence Awards (RBLEA) for the GSA and CEO Benonita Bismarck highlights their significant contributions to the development of the business sector, particularly within the shipping industry.
  2. Beyond the 'Responsible Government Regulator of the Year 2021' award, the GSA's initiatives such as educational seminars on Uncleared Cargo List, local marine insurance promotions, and stakeholder engagements, demonstrate a commitment to investment in business development.
  3. The RBLEA aims to encourage responsible business practices and discourage activities hindering social development, encompassing categories like 'Responsible CEO of the Year', 'Responsible Trade & Investment Leader of the Year', and 'Responsible CSR and Community Development Impact Award'.
  4. The RBLEA also focuses on recognizing achievements in areas like finance and leadership, with categories such as 'Responsible Brand of the Year', 'Responsible Business and Leadership Company of the Year', and 'Industry Personality of the Year'.
  5. Bismarck's 'Outstanding Contribution to the Shipping Industry Development' award underscores the importance of leadership in driving financing, trade, and business growth, as well as fostering social development.
