Yakutsk's Bus Drivers Strike: The Unfolding Drama

City bus drivers in Yakutsk are creating quite a commotion, refusing to work on route No.12 and demanding changes from the authorities. This standoff between the drivers and the city's mayor's office has been ongoing since last week.

  • The drivers have contacted Maximov for help, but he has advised them to wait for a two-day response. If no resolution is reached by then, they plan to gather more support and head to the mayor's office. There's a significant shortage of drivers in the city, and Maximov has promised to address the issue with Sadovnikov within two days, according to driver Grigorii Kakodzhanian.*

Maximov, who once headed the NPO "SoyuzAvto," is currently in Yakutsk, while "SoyuzAvto" is officially led by Andrei Kositskii. Last Monday, Kositskii commented on the drivers' demands to "YI."

  • They want to revive the abolished routes No.15 and No.25, but these routes did not adhere to customer requirements for passenger transportation, Kositskii explained. He further articulated that he is uncertain about the drivers' demands. The situation will either result in a route change, or the drivers will switch to a different lot. He also described their actions as a strike, attempting to leave the citizens without transportation.*

When our correspondent contacted Kositskii to learn about the decision, he did not respond.

A week ago, Yakutsk's new bus route No.12 faced resistance from its drivers. They expressed dissatisfaction with the route's low income and demanded the return of routes No.15 and No.25, which had been discontinued. Interestingly, the drivers' demands correlate with the requests from residents in the outskirts to preserve routes No.15 and No.25.

However, the authorities and many residents have accused the drivers of sabotage, which, at first glance, seems plausible. But here's the twist – the drivers' frustration mirrors the demands of the outskirts' residents to keep routes No.15 and No.25 operational.*
