Bochum's municipal utilities have taken a significant step forward in their commitment to renewable energy with a new partnership with Trianel, a company involved in wind energy projects. This partnership is evident in the construction of a new wind park in Schleswig-Holstein, a move that is expected to generate up to 110 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

The wind park, located in Schleswig-Holstein, will be a significant addition to Bochum's municipal utilities' energy supply. With an estimated capacity to power approximately 44,000 households, the project is a key part of Bochum's municipal utilities' efforts to increase power from renewable sources.

Bochum's municipal utilities are not new to the renewable energy scene. They currently operate ten large photovoltaic plants within the city and generate electricity from multiple sources, including photovoltaic, hydropower, and wind energy. In fact, they have two wind turbines in Iserlohn and four in Bremerhaven, demonstrating their nationwide involvement in renewable energy projects.

Their renewable energy endeavours extend beyond Schleswig-Holstein, as they are involved in the first and second expansion stages of the Trianel wind park off Borkum, a national project. Furthermore, their aim is not just to expand the share of renewable electricity but also renewable heat. The share of renewable heat is continuously expanded by the municipal utilities through innovative projects.

One such project is the green electricity generation from hydropower in Stiepel on the Ruhr, operated by the municipal utilities in Bochum. Another example is the photovoltaic open-space plant in the Franconian town of Gnodstadt.

This partnership with Trianel is just one of many steps Bochum's municipal utilities are taking to contribute to the production of renewable energy in Germany. Their investment in renewable energies is a testament to their commitment to a sustainable future.
