Comcast Names Mike Cavanagh Co-CEO Alongside Brian Roberts
Comcast has announced a significant change in its leadership. Mike Cavanagh has been named co-CEO, joining Brian Roberts at the helm of the communications giant. This move is unusual for the family-controlled company, founded over 60 years ago by Brian Roberts' father, Ralph Roberts.
Mike Cavanagh has been with Comcast since 2015, initially joining as Chief Financial Officer. He later served as President of Comcast Cable, effectively running NBCUniversal. On January 1st, 2026, Cavanagh will step into his new role as co-CEO, also becoming a member of the Comcast board of directors.
Brian Roberts, who succeeded his father in 1990, will continue to serve as Chairman and co-CEO. His son, Tucker Roberts, is also an employee of Comcast in its Spectator division, keeping the family's involvement in the company strong.
Mike Cavanagh's promotion to co-CEO signals a shift in leadership at Comcast. The company, known for its family control, has chosen an executive with a proven track record to share the top role with Brian Roberts. Cavanagh's new position begins on January 1st, 2026.
