Undercover Price-Fixing Scandal: Bundeskartellamt Slaps Massive Fines on Sennheiser

In a shocking development, Sennheiser, renowned for its premium headphones, has been caught red-handed orchestrating a secret price-fixing scheme for years. According to Andreas Mundt, President of the Federal Cartel Office, Sennheiser manipulated the free market dynamics associated with the distribution of high-end headphones since at least 2015.
When products were found drastically undervaluing the suggested retail price (SRP), Sennheiser stepped in to force retailers to adjust the prices. According to the Federal Cartel Office, most retailers complied with this hidden agreement. Mundt revealed that Sennheiser employees were even schooled in cartel law, but instead of leveraging this knowledge to abide by cartel law, they utilized it to hide their price-fixing activities.
The hammer doesn't fall only on Sennheiser. The German subsidiary of the Swiss hearing aid manufacturer Sonova also finds itself entangled in this sordid affair as it took over Sennheiser's consumer electronics division in 2022, including the sales of headphones directly to consumers. The illegal price-fixing continued from March to September 2022, even post the takeover, until the Federal Cartel Office intervened and raided the premises.
