Competition kicks off for Audi as they strive to catch up
Audi is gearing up for its largest model offensive in the company's history, with a focus on electrification and innovation. Here's a roundup of the new models expected to hit the roads in the coming years.
The much-anticipated third generation of the Audi Q5 will continue to be produced in San José Chiapa, Mexico, with the Sportback version following in late 2025. The new Q5 will offer mild hybrid gasoline and diesel engines, as well as plug-in hybrid variants with two different system outputs. The electric motors for the plug-in hybrid variants are developed by Audi itself, marking a significant step forward in their plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology.
In the electric realm, the new version of the Audi Q4 e-tron is expected in 2026, offering more range and higher charging power. The Audi Q6 e-tron and its Sportback counterpart, based on the new PPE platform, are also scheduled for release, though further details are yet to be announced.
Audi is not forgetting about its conventional segment. The Audi A5, the first model to be based on the PPC platform, a further development of the MLB evo, will introduce new electrified powertrains, such as the mild hybrid MHEV plus, in 2023. The Audi A5 will be available in plug-in hybrid versions, offered in two performance levels in combination with four-cylinder and V6 engines.
The Audi A7, based on the PPC platform, will have its market launch in the summer of 2025, with the Limousine (Sportback) following a few weeks later. The Audi A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro and the Audi A7 e-tron quattro are new models, but further details were not provided in the paragraph.
The Audi A3 is set to get an electric counterpart based on the further developed MEB (Evo II) in 2027, though it's unclear whether they will use the A2 name. Audi is also planning to bring independent electric models (without the four rings in the grille) to the market in China soon.
The much-discussed super SUV Q9 could hit the streets in 2027, primarily intended for the Chinese and US markets. The new Audi Q3 will continue to be based on the MQB evo (transverse engines) and will be available at the end of next year. The Sportback variant is expected to go into series production at the beginning of 2026.
Lastly, the Audi Q6 e-tron Sportback is expected to join the lineup, though details are scant. The A8 e-tron is expected to continue in 2027, possibly without the e-tron suffix and not based on the new SSP (Scalable System Platform).
With this model offensive, Audi is positioning itself as a leader in the electrification of vehicles, offering a wide range of options to suit various consumer needs and preferences. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting new releases.
