Complete shutdown of the Cape Town road, lasting from August 25th to November 14th, 2025
Greifswald residents and visitors are advised of significant changes in traffic and public transportation, as well as upcoming construction work, starting from August 25, 2025.
In the heart of the city, construction work on Kapaunenstraße is set to begin. The Greifswald Utilities will expand the district heating and drinking water network in this area, with the project expected to continue until November 14, 2025. During this period, Kapaunenstraße will be fully closed in sections, affecting access to and from this street.
To accommodate this construction, a moving construction site will be implemented to ensure resident parking availability before and/or after the construction site during the work. The heat and drinking water supply in Kapaunenstraße will remain unaffected during the work.
In the meantime, changes in traffic guidance in Wollweberstraße and Friedrich-Loeffler-Straße (dead end) will remain in effect for the entire construction period. Traffic coming from the station will be redirected via Wollweberstraße to Friedrich-Loeffler-Straße. Similarly, from ZOB in the direction of Campus Loefflerstraße, lines 2 and 3 will be redirected via Wollweberstraße into Friedrich-Loeffler-Straße.
To reach the station via Wollweberstraße, commuters can follow the detour: Hansering - Goethestraße - Bahnhofstraße - Zentrum. Passengers are requested to plan for delays and are advised to check further information at the mobility center at ZOB or by phone at 03834 532424.
It is worth noting that in the direction of ZOB, line 2 will run via the "Rathaus" stop from 06:00 to 22:00. Additionally, the "Campus Loefflerstraße" and "Tierpark" stops will not be served for line 2 in the direction of ZOB. This also applies to line 3 in the direction of ZOB before 06:00 and after 22:00.
In a related development, a one-way street in Wollweberstraße will be "reversed" and extended in Friedrich-Loeffler-Straße to Kapaunenstraße. After the construction work in Friedrich-Loeffler-Straße is completed, traffic can drive to Kapaunenstraße.
However, traffic coming from Hansering can only drive to Rotgerberstraße via Friedrich-Loeffler-Straße from August 25 to September 22, 2025, due to an additional closure in Friedrich-Loeffler-Straße. The construction will be carried out in several phases to minimize parking disruption.
