Continuing inspections in Kamchatka region to oversee traffic regulations

Living in Kamchatka Krai: * updates on Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky News, Transport & Roads, and Society*

Authorities in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky stepped up their presence on the roads recently, and for good reason. Officers in plain clothes and regular vehicles with no color schemes conducted surveillance on bus drivers. The result? Five drivers were held accountable for various administrative offenses.

But that was just the beginning. When it came to private vehicles, the authorities took no prisoners. After "undercover" checks, six administrative cases were filed, one involving driving under the influence (DUI). This case was also deemed severe enough to brought before a criminal court, with violations under part 1 of article 12.8 of the Code of Administrative Offenses and article 264.1 of the Criminal Code.

Normally, checks at the end of route buses involve inspections of travel documents and vehicle conditions. The same goes for taxi drivers, as daily supervision ensures they abide by traffic laws. Since the start of 2025, no less than 38 foreign taxi drivers were fined for violations.

The traffic police emphasizes the importance of following the rules of the road, reminding everyone that non-compliance can be detected at any time.

In the wider context of Kamchatka Krai, it's crucial to remember that driving conditions can be tough, with poorly marked roads and hazards common outside major cities. Always be vigilant and ensure you have all the necessary paperwork - registration, insurance, and a valid driver's license. Failure to do so could lead to fines or detention.

And let's not forget about DUIs. In Russia, the zero-tolerance policy applies, meaning even a small amount of alcohol can trigger penalties. Those found guilty can face hefty fines, license suspensions, and imprisonment. So, once again, drive safe, Kamchatka Krai!
