E-commerce giant Coupang intensifies strategic focus with a shift to single CEO leadership under Park Dae-jun. The South Korean company, known for expedited delivery services and digital retail innovation, announced the restructure effective late May 2025.

Park Dae-jun, who co-led the company alongside Kang Han-seung since 2021, will now oversee all operations, marking the end of the dual-CEO system. This streamlined decision-making process is expected to drive operational centricity and innovation.

Under Park's leadership, Coupang has made significant strides in the domestic market, bolstering its logistics infrastructure with AI-driven technologies, expanding the nationwide Rocket Delivery service, and providing support to smaller Korean businesses through digital sales channels. Additionally, the company has initiated various services, such as Coupang Eats and Coupang Play, contributing to regional development and job creation.

As for Kang Han-seung, now charged with business development in North America and global expansion initiatives, he will help advance Coupang's reach through Rocket Delivery in Taiwan and luxury e-commerce offerings in partnership with Farfetch.

In terms of financial performance, Coupang’s Q1 2025 earnings reveal encouraging margin improvements, with the gross profit margin rising to 29.3%—an increase of 217 basis points year-over-year. The adjusted EBITDA margin also reached 4.8%. It remains to be seen how much of these gains can be attributed to the new management structure or broader strategic initiatives.

As Coupang moves forward, the single-CEO structure is projected to foster both domestic and international growth by leveraging the company's core strengths in e-commerce and logistics. This change in leadership would position the company for continued innovation and expansion in the next phase of its growth trajectory.
