Court Orders Seizure of €9.8M from Swiss Co. Over Illegal Mercury Trade
The Supreme Court of Essen has ordered the seizure of a substantial sum, 9,815,426.92 euros, from a Swiss company. This action is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities and deprive offenders of their illegal gains.
The court's decision follows an investigation into the illegal trade of mercury between 2011 and 2013. During this period, the company is alleged to have sold approximately 1,000 tons of mercury on the world market instead of disposing of it properly. This illegal activity resulted in millions of euros in profit for the perpetrators.
The seizure order is not yet final, and the process is ongoing. The name of the Swiss company has not been disclosed in the available search results.
The Supreme Court of Essen's decision to seize the funds sends a strong message against illegal activities, particularly those involving hazardous materials like mercury. The court's action aims to recover the ill-gotten gains and deter future criminal behaviour.
