News Article: Attorneys General Seek to Overturn Stop-Work Order on Revolution Wind Project

The attorneys general of two Democratic-led states, Connecticut and Rhode Island, have filed a motion to overturn the Interior Department's August order that halted the construction of the Revolution Wind project. This nearly completed 65-turbine wind project, located approximately 32 nautical miles from Connecticut and 15 nautical miles from Rhode Island, is jointly owned by Ørsted and BlackRock.

The motion, filed on Wednesday, is for a preliminary injunction, aiming to have the federal judge immediately block the Trump administration's stop-work order. According to Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha, Rhode Islanders have been harmed due to the daily uncertainty caused by the stop-work order on the Revolution Wind project.

If completed, Revolution Wind would provide power to both Rhode Island and Connecticut. The project was about 80 percent complete before work was halted. The attorneys general are calling for the federal judge to intervene and lift the construction stop on the Revolution Wind project.

The request for a preliminary injunction to lift the construction stop of the Revolution Wind project is not the only legal proceeding related to the wind project. A separate legal proceeding was initiated by authorities in Ocean City, Maryland, and was filed by September 12, 2020, before a federal court in Maryland.

The motion for a preliminary injunction was filed by Connecticut Attorney General William Tong and Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha. The Ørsted and BlackRock project, Revolution Wind, has been a subject of controversy, with the attorneys general calling upon the project to be allowed to proceed.

The Revolution Wind project, if completed, would contribute significantly to the renewable energy efforts of both Rhode Island and Connecticut, providing a sustainable source of power for the future. The attorneys general's motion is a step towards ensuring the completion of this important project.
