Cruz, Cantwell Introduce Bipartisan Pipeline Safety Bill

Senator Ted Cruz has been a vocal advocate for pipelines as a safe and efficient means of transporting American oil and natural gas. Now, he and Senator Maria Cantwell are set to introduce a bipartisan bill, the AMEX Safety Act of 2025, to reauthorize the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).

The bill, which will be considered by the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee this week, is the first such effort since 2020. It aims to strengthen safety regulations for pipelines, ensuring the safe transportation of hazardous materials. Cruz, the committee's chair, has long championed the safety and effectiveness of pipelines, as he stated in May, 'Pipelines are the safest and most effective way to transport massive quantities of American oil and natural gas.'

The AMEX Safety Act of 2025, a result of bipartisan cooperation between Cruz and Cantwell, seeks to enhance pipeline safety. The committee's vote this week will bring the bill a significant step closer to reauthorizing PHMSA's safety programs.
