Customs authorities are currently probing multiple instances of alleged violations within the food service industry.

The Main Customs Office Münster, based in Gronau, recently conducted inspections under the Anti-Bribery Act in various establishments and a taxi company in the district of Borken on August 31, 2025.

Goswin Brehe, head of the Financial Control Black Market at the Main Customs Office Münster, expressed concern over the number of violations discovered during these inspections. The joint operation involved nine customs officers, three employees from the Foreigners' Office, and two officers from the Borken District Police Authority.

The inspections are considered crucial in protecting honest businesses from prohibited practices by their competitors. In the first establishment inspected, a 68-year-old employee was found to be working without a valid residence permit, leading to investigations against her and her employer.

In a second restaurant, a man without a residence permit, two unregistered employees for social security, and an employee not receiving the minimum wage were found. Investigations were initiated in this case as well.

In a third establishment, employees were found to be working without being registered for social security. Additionally, two employees lacked their ID, violating regulations for the catering industry. Investigations are being initiated in this case too.

An administrative offense procedure was initiated against an employee who refused to answer questions from the customs office.

In a separate incident, in a taxi company, no violations were found.
