Customs Boost Inspections in Thuringia and South Saxony, Finding 54 Potential Irregularities
Customs authorities have stepped up inspections in the freight forwarding, transport, and logistics industry in Thuringia and South Saxony. The intensified checks, which began this week, focused on compliance with minimum wage, social security obligations, and the residence status of foreign employees. Over 119 customs officers questioned 421 employees during the inspections. They looked into employment relationships and improper receipt of social security benefits. While no specific companies have been named, officials found indications of potential irregularities in 54 cases. The inspections come as the industry's general statutory minimum wage stands at 12.82 euros gross per hour. Authorities aim to ensure fair labour practices and prevent undeclared work. Customs will continue to monitor the industry, with further investigations pending based on the initial findings. The inspections highlight the importance of compliance with labour laws and regulations in the sector.
