Customs in Bremen Seize 408kg Cannabis in Record Bust
Customs officials in Bremen have made a significant drug bust, seizing 408 kilograms of cannabis hidden in a sea container. The contraband was cleverly concealed among coconut shells, but a vigilant customs dog and a risk-oriented control strategy led to its discovery.
The cannabis, packed into 560 individual packages, was found after Customs dog Emma, a Flat Coated Retriever, showed interest in the suspicious boxes. The case was then taken over by the Customs Investigation Office Hannover for further investigation.
The successful seizure is a testament to the effective cooperation between customs officers and the investigation service. The head of the customs criminal office, Dr. Tino Igelmann, praised the operation, stating it dealt a significant blow to the fight against organized crime. On the black market, the seized cannabis could have fetched around 1.2 million euros.
The discovery of the cannabis in Bremen highlights the importance of customs' risk-oriented control strategies and the valuable role of their canine units. The seizure not only disrupts the supply chain of organized crime but also sends a strong message to potential smugglers.
