Customs Raid Nets 7 Unauthorized Workers, 9 Illegal Residents in Hesse
In a recent crackdown, the Main Customs Office Gießen uncovered seven individuals working without necessary permits across Limburg-Weilburg, Gießen, Friedberg, and around Kassel. The inspections, involving over 80 customs officers, also revealed various irregularities such as underpayment of minimum wage, missing social security notifications, performance fraud, and notification violations.
The operation, part of a national focus action, targeted 38 restaurants, guesthouses, and snack bars in North, East, and Central Hesse. Around 130 employment relationships were checked on-site across four areas. In the Schwalm-Eder district, two individuals were found working without proper permits. Nine men were taken into custody on suspicion of illegal residence, having been employed without required work and residence permits.
The inspections aimed to detect illegal employment, performance fraud, minimum wage violations, and social security irregularities. Authorities secured social systems and state revenues, ensuring fair working conditions and competitive business environments. Follow-up investigations will confirm the violations, with legal action taken against employers if necessary.
