Customs Raids Expose Multiple Corruption Law Violations in Borken District
Customs authorities in the Borken district conducted inspections on the evening of August 31, 2025, uncovering multiple violations of the anti-corruption law across several companies and a taxi firm. The names of the affected businesses remain undisclosed.
The raids, involving nine customs officers, three Foreigners' Office employees, and two police officers, targeted five catering establishments and one taxi company. In one restaurant, a 68-year-old employee was found working without a valid residence permit. Another establishment had employees without residence permits, not registered with social security, and not receiving minimum wage.
A third establishment also had employees working without social security registration, with two lacking identification. Goswin Brehe, head of the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit department, noted that these violations highlight the significance of their inspections. An administrative offense procedure was initiated against an employee who refused to answer questions.
The inspections resulted in numerous violations, including illegal residence, failure to report to social security, and minimum wage infringements. Authorities emphasize the importance of such operations to maintain fair labour practices and enforce immigration laws.
