Customs Seize Five Puppies From Smuggling Attempt on A3

Customs officials in Schweinfurt have seized five puppies from a couple attempting to smuggle them across the border. The animals were discovered hidden in a cramped box on a Romanian-registered vehicle at an A3 motorway service area. The couple, who claimed to be Romanian residents of France, could not provide valid vaccination or transport certificates.

The puppies, secured and handed over to local veterinary authorities, were found under blankets in a small transport box. This incident highlights the growing issue of illegal puppy trade, with many animals originating from Eastern Europe and transported under poor conditions.

During a routine check, Schweinfurt customs officers suspected the couple of violating animal welfare laws. The pair may face criminal charges and have already paid a security deposit of €1,500. The identities of the travelers remain unknown to the public.

The seized puppies are now receiving medical care and appropriate accommodation at the responsible veterinary office. The illegal transport of animals under poor conditions continues to be a concern, with strict enforcement of animal welfare laws crucial to prevent such incidents.
