Debut of Electric Bus Equipped with Solar Technology by Our Organization and Pepper
Sono Group N.V., a Munich-based solar mobility OEM, has announced a new strategic partnership with pepper motion GmbH. This collaboration aims to revolutionise public transport by developing electric buses integrated with solar technology.
The solar-equipped electric bus, part of Sono Group's demo fleet, boasts 14 semi-flexible solar modules, providing around 1.3 kW peak to its 24-volt system. The energy generated by this installation is expected to be 3.3 kWh/day on a yearly average based on weather conditions in Munich. The solar charge controller, developed in-house by Sono Group, transfers the solar energy to the battery.
When solar energy supply is insufficient, the e-bus' DC/DC charger takes over energy supply. This innovative design ensures continuous power for the bus, promoting sustainability and reducing reliance on traditional power sources.
Pepper motion GmbH, headquartered in Denkendorf and with offices in Garching near Munich and Paderborn, has more than 100 employees. The company is ISO 9001 certified and ensures operational safety according to international automotive industry standards such as ISO 26262 for functional safety.
The partnership between Sono Group and pepper marks a new milestone project for Sono Group's mission of solar on every vehicle. This collaboration specifically targets innovations in motion control and solar-powered inverters that improve the efficiency of electric buses. The use of solar technology in these buses supports cleaner energy use, decreasing emissions and contributing to a more sustainable urban mobility landscape.
For Sono Group, this partnership impacts the B2B business by enabling the company to offer more advanced, eco-friendly electric bus solutions to commercial clients and public transport authorities. It positions Sono Group at the forefront of sustainable mobility innovations, which is increasingly crucial in the growing market for electric and solar-powered vehicles.
The combined expertise in motion control and solar technology from pepper motion GmbH supports product differentiation and opens new business opportunities in the electric mobility sector, which is expanding rapidly due to increasing environmental regulations and demand for green transport alternatives.
In essence, the collaboration enhances Sono Group's portfolio with cutting-edge solar-electric bus technology, boosting its competitiveness in the B2B electric vehicle market. The test phase across Europe, lasting two years, has been initiated for pepper clients, indicating a promising future for this innovative partnership.
