Hey there!

Microsoft's revamped Microsoft Store revenue sharing agreement is making headlines. Starting from some point in 2025, app developers will receive an impressive 95% of app sales revenue, with Microsoft pocketing just 5%. But here's the catch:

To grab the full 95%, users must download the app via a direct URL. This can be from the developer's website or other sources. If users snag the app through the Microsoft Store search or a Microsoft Store Collection, the developer's share drops to a still-decent 85%, with Microsoft grabbing the remaining 15%.

This tweaked revenue structure is only valid for app purchases on Windows 10 PCs, Windows Mixed Reality, Windows 10 Mobile, and Surface Hub devices. However, game and Xbox purchases will stick to the original 70%-30% split.

App developers have been urging Apple to revise its App Store revenue sharing terms, which currently dol coins out 70% to devs while Apple takes the rest 30%. For subscriptions, it's 15% for Apple and 85% for the devs.

No word yet from Apple if they'll adjust their terms after Microsoft's update, but recently they've made a move by allowing developers to offer In-App subscription discounts, aiming to help retain and attract customers.
