Diesel Vans Dominate EU Market, but Electric Trucks Surge

Diesel vans continue to dominate the stock market today, with a significant increase in registrations and a substantial stock market share. Meanwhile, electric vehicles, particularly trucks, have witnessed remarkable growth in the European Union.

Diesel vans continue to lead the stock market, with a 10.4 per cent increase in registrations, solidifying their position with an 82.6 per cent stock market share. However, the spotlight is on the electric vehicle sector, which has seen impressive growth.

Electric truck registrations surged by 234.1 per cent, reaching 5,279 units in the EU. This growth has led to electric trucks now representing 1.5 per cent of the truck stock market, up from 0.8 per cent the previous year. The Netherlands, Spain, and France were the key drivers behind this growth in electric van registrations.

Electric bus registrations also increased by 39.1 per cent to 5,166 units, with a stock market share of 15.9 per cent. Electric van registrations grew by 56.8 per cent, capturing a 7.4 per cent stock market share. Spain led the growth in electric bus registrations, followed by Italy and Germany.

Despite these gains, diesel trucks still dominate the stock market, representing 95.7 per cent of new registrations. The countries reporting the highest sales of electric trucks, buses, and vans in 2023 include Norway, Luxembourg, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium, with Norway leading the European electric vehicle stock market alongside strong growth in electric vehicles and infrastructure in Luxembourg and others.

While diesel vans maintain their stock market leadership, electric vehicles, particularly trucks, have shown significant growth. The Netherlands and Germany were the main drivers of this growth, contributing to over 60 per cent of electric truck sales. As the stock market evolves, the future of electric vehicles in the EU appears promising.
