Ruff's Burger Expands Presence with Takeover of Burgerheart Chain

Ruff's Burger, a Munich-based burger chain, has announced its strategic expansion following the takeover of the Burgerheart chain. The acquisition strengthens Ruff's Burger's position as one of the leading brands in the higher-priced burger segment, according to Alexander Kleinhans, founder and managing director of Ruff's.

The takeover, one of the notable events in the Franconian gastronomy scene, includes 17 Burgerheart locations across Germany. Seven of these restaurants are in Bavaria, with sites in Würzburg, Bamberg, Fürth, Nuremberg, and Erlangen. Ruff's Burger currently operates 21 restaurants in Munich and the surrounding area, and the acquisition will help the chain expand beyond Bavaria.

The expansion strategy involves a gradual conversion of selected Burgerheart locations into Ruff’s Burger restaurants. This approach aims to leverage existing established sites while expanding the brand presence quickly. Ruff's Burger is specifically targeting the Franconia region (Northern Bavaria) for expansion, where Burgerheart had a solid footprint. The company aims to strengthen and increase their market share in this area.

Beyond Franconia, Ruff’s Burger plans a more measured expansion, targeting locations where Burgerheart already has a presence but also exploring promising new markets. The strategy involves integrating some Burgerheart staff and operational practices while emphasizing Ruff’s Burger’s brand identity, menu, and quality standards to ensure consistency and customer appeal.

The renaming process is intended to be done in a way that is not too abrupt, according to the company's spokesperson. The Burgerheart branches will be renamed gradually, and this process could take up to three years.

Ruff's Burger intends to have a strong presence in Franconia, where Burgerheart has its headquarters. The company is also planning to add branches in Regensburg and Ingolstadt as part of their expansion. In total, the Ruff's Burger chain is represented with around 60 locations in Germany and France.

The dynamic Franconian gastronomy scene is currently undergoing changes, with some restaurants worried about their existence. The takeover of Burgerheart by Ruff's Burger is a consistent step in this context, reflecting the ongoing evolution of the industry.

In 2013, entrepreneurs Daniel Soriano and Mischa Steigerwald founded the Burgerheart chain with the original 17 locations in Germany. The sale of Burgerheart marks the end of an era for the chain, but it also presents new opportunities for growth and development for Ruff's Burger.

The takeover of Burgerheart is the next big news in the Franconian gastronomy scene, signalling a shift in the competitive landscape of the burger market. Ruff's Burger, with its commitment to quality and strategic expansion, is poised to make a significant impact in the industry.
