Durham University Launches First Alumni Angel Network, Connecting Entrepreneurs with Investors
Durham University has launched its first-ever Alumni Angel Network, a global initiative connecting alumni entrepreneurs with investors. Seven businesses founded by Durham alumni have pitched to 26 qualified 'angels' from around the world. The network, established by The Venture Lab with alumni input, is led by Chris Gilman, Entreprise Manager. It brings together members from diverse backgrounds, including entrepreneurship, finance, and professional services. The network facilitates investment in start-ups founded by Durham alumni, fostering a supportive ecosystem. Since its creation, the network has curated a deal flow of relevant opportunities and held three inaugural events. Pitches received have come from a range of industries, such as FinTech, EdTech, and carbon negative product manufacturing. The network's angel support is critical for the start-up ecosystem to flourish. Durham University's Alumni Angel Network, a first for a UK university, has successfully connected seven alumni-led businesses with potential investors. With 26 qualified 'angels' on board, the network continues to grow and support early-stage businesses founded by Durham alumni.
