Here's the Scoop:

E-tailer Proozy Buys Zulily From Beyond as They Delve Deeper into Discount Fashion Retail

Swedish Fish swim over to Proozy as the off-price e-commerce fashion retailer takes control of fashion flash-sale site, Zulily, following a quick flip by Beyond just a year later. Remember when Beyond, the rebranded Overstock.com, bought the struggling Zulily? Well, that happened just last year. Looks like the deal's value came in at $6.7 million, with Beyond scoring a cool $5 million for a 75% stake in Zulily, leaving them with a 25% stake still in the game.

Looking Back:

As you reminisce on last year, Beyond, after a three-month pause, purchased Zulily for $4.5 million, planning to pump it up with off-price textiles and fashion goods. Fast forward to now, and Beyond's now diving back into their core brands like Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock.com, and the recently added Buy Buy Baby, which they picked up for another $5 million.

Zulily's Down for Now, but Coming Back Soon!

With Zulily temporarily offline, visitors are getting redirected to Proozy.com to catch the latest deals and registered for Zulily's grand relaunch event - although the link ain't working so hot for me.

Zulily: A Short but Bumpy Ride:

After a rocky start back in 2010, Zulily shot to fame as a pioneer in flash-sale e-commerce, rocking deep discounts on clothing and accessories. But between their tough return policies, slow delivery, and a snag with their parent company QVC, they stumbled on their way to the top. After being sold to Regent in 2023, Zulily shrunk to almost nothing before Beyond stepped in and picked it up for a steal at $4.5 million under Marcus Lemonis' leadership.

Zulily Just Didn't Fit:

Despite the hopes of boosting Beyond's off-price market presence and synergizing with their home goods focus, Zulily failed to fit the bill. Inside sources spill the tea that the hoped-for synergies never materialized. With Beyond grappling to turn around Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock, and Buy Buy Baby, offloading Zulily seems like a smart move, even for pro fashion veterans navigating today's rough waters.

What's Up Next for Zulily and Proozy?

By the Numbers:

With a steady stream of 892.6k monthly visitors from Sept. 2024 through Feb. 2025, Zulily.com attracted more traffic than Proozy.com's 860k, as per Similarweb's digital market analysis. In fact, in its final month under Regent, Zulily notched an impressive 11.5 million visitors a month. Compared to Proozy.com's average 2023 stats of 1.1 million visitors per month, Zulily's still a force to be reckoned with.

The Experts Chime In:

One investment firm, Jefferies, had this to say about the deal, "BYON breezed in to acquire Zulily for $4.5M last March, and only 12 months later sold the majority of it for $5M. We imagine a higher ROI from investing the proceeds in core brands like Bed Bath & Beyond and Overstock, allowing more management time and company resources to be redirected to higher pay-off ventures."
