For the first time ever, the classic Jeep Compass enters the electric era, promising a robust, modern spin for the compact SUV segment — starting in Europe. Boasting more space and advanced tech, this third-gen Compass rolls out with three electric drive options.

After selling a whopping 2.5 million units since its inception in 2006, the Compass stands tall in the fiercely competitive C-segment, accounting for a substantial quarter of the European auto market. Europe will be the first market to welcome the new Compass, with global sales to follow suit.

Jeep has equipped the generation-three Compass on the Stellantis STLA platform, allowing for diverse powertrain configurations. Offered in three distinct types, the Compass starts with a 48-volt mild hybrid producing 107 kW/145 PS. The middle/upper tier is a plug-in hybrid packing 143 kW/195 PS. Paving the way for a greener future is the electric Compass, available in three iterations to cater to various driving needs.

Electric Versions Galore

The pioneering Compass comes in three battery-electric versions, each tailored to meet diverse requirements. The baseline variant features a 157 kW/213 PS front-wheel drive motor, promising a WLTP-estimated range of 500 kilometers. The mid-level option also sports 170 kW/231 PS but remains a front-wheel drive. The leading electric Compass is an all-wheel drive beast. By pairing a rear motor, its output skyrockets up to 276 kW/375 PS. The top-of-the-line model's power comes courtesy of a 74 kWh battery, anticipated to deliver a WLTP-estimated range of up to 650 kilometers in optimal conditions.

Thanks to a DC fast charging (DC) capacity of up to 160 kW, the battery goes from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. An on-board charger allows AC powers of up to 22 kW.

Extending the Miles

The pursuit of efficiency and increased range hinges on optimized aerodynamics. Key features include active slats in the radiator grille, strategically placed air guides on the wheels, sharp breakaway edges at the rear, and a completely flat underbody. These modifications reduce the drag coefficient (cW value) by 10% to below 0.3.

With a total length of 4.55 meters, the new Compass remains faithful to the compact SUV segment. The platform accommodates vehicles up to the D-segment. Enhanced interior space offers more legroom in the rear (5.5 cm) and a 45-liter increase in luggage capacity to 550 liters. An additional 34-liter storage compartment for front passengers provides extra storage space, contrasting the predecessor's paltry 14 liters. The standard 40/20/40-split rear seat offers passenger and cargo versatility.

Characteristic Body Design

The Jeep Compass's unique body design is exemplified by a seven-slat grille, trapezoidal wheel arches, and rugged protective elements on bumpers and sills. A higher-positioned front radar sensor ensures the vehicle can withstand challenging terrain and parking maneuvers unscathed.

Infotainment System Revamp and Softened Suspension

The cockpit houses an updated infotainment system, boasting a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a central 16-inch touchscreen. Regular "over the air" updates ensure latest software versions are accessible without a workshop visit. Pre-installed driver assistance systems enable Level 2 partial automation; a head-up display, matrix LED headlights, a digital vehicle key for mobile phones, and a semi-automatic lane change assistant are optional add-ons.

Jeep has finessed the suspension to provide a harmonious blend of comfort and precision handling. The front-wheel-drive model has a ground clearance of up to 20 cm, while all-wheel-drive versions boast improved approach angles of 27° front, 31° rear, a departure angle of 16°, and a wading depth of 47 cm. Standard features include the "Selec-Terrain" mode, an underbody protection system, and a hill descent control.

The Compass First Edition model is set to debut as both an e-hybrid (145 HP) and a BEV (front-wheel drive). Standard features include 20-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights, a 16-inch navigation system, level 2 assistance systems, 360-degree parking sensors, and a sensor-controlled tailgate. Upgrades include ventilated seats with massage function and a panoramic sunroof.

Delivery of the first vehicles is scheduled for Q4 2025, with Jeep yet to announce pricing details. The previous model retailed at approximately 40,000 euros.
